The Greenhouse Drug Use Prevention Campaign
The Greenhouse conducted research studies into drug use within Singapore’s Gay, Bisexual and Queer (GBQ) community. These studies established Body-Shaming, Racial Discrimination and HIV Stigma as reasons behind drug use. Drug use as a means of coping with the stigma, discrimination and bullying that GBQ experience has been well established in both local and overseas studies. The Greenhouse views drug addiction as a maladaptive coping mechanism for mental health challenges such as anxiety and depression, which are often a result of such experiences.
A safe, diverse and inclusive community is essential to the well-being of all its members. These include people from different races, different faiths, different shapes, sizes and HIV status. Some may hold different values and beliefs, or be physically different. But the need to be loved and accepted is universal. Let’s Build a Safe, Diverse and Inclusive Community together, that is Free from Body-Shaming, Racial Discrimination and HIV Stigma.
